Monthly Newsletter: June 2009
From Entrepedia: The Entrepreneurship Wiki
Welcome to Entrepedia's monthly newsletter for June 2009!
It seems that summer has finally arrived and we've been busy looking for new contributors and information to add to the site as well as researching events that are taking place over the course of the summer.
Events
There's going to be lots going on in June. There are the School for Startups events in Aberdeen and Doug Richard's School for Startups 2009 - Edinburgh, there's the Student Enterprise Expo taking place at the University of Edinburgh on the 2nd of June, and there's the Enterprise and Entrepreneurship for Researchers residential course designed to help PhD students who are thinking about commercialising their research. In addition to this, Entrepedia will be attending the presentation of the Digital Britain report and will be reporting back on what opportunities presented to entrepreneurs by the next generation of high speed Internet.
Commercialisation Section
We've also started a new section on commercialisation which will provide information on the process of commercialising research. The idea behind this is to equip students and emerging entrepreneurs with the information they need to successfully form a viable business using research from the academic career. So far we've got information on [Spin outs] and as we expand the section, we'll be looking for more contributors and volunteers for case studies. If you are interested, please get in touch!
Ecomonkey Case Study
Last month we published a new case study on Ecomonkey, looking at how local entrepreneur Philip Immirzi has used e-commerce to make environmental sustainability appeal more to the mass market. The case study explains how his venture works as well as proving information about Immirzi's experience in starting up. Essential reading for the Green entrepreneur.
The End of an Era
It's the end of an era here at Entrepedia and we're sorry to say that Ally has stepped down as editor in order to better focus on her studies. We thank her for all the hard work she put in as an Editor (especially her Tweets) and wish her all the best for the future. She will be missed.
Until next month!
