This talk will look at the state of the current policy in the UK and Scotland and its effects on the supply of entrepreneurial finance, which includes the different categories of friends and family, business angel, venture capital, and later stage mezzanine financing. In particular the talk will focus on the category of the professional venture capital, which includes the stages of seed, early stage, and later stage.

Edinburgh Council Business Support
The ‘One-Stop-Shop’ service, part of the City of Edinburgh Council’s Economic Resilience Action Plan (ERAP), is a partnership project with the Business Environment Partnership (BEP) to ensure businesses continue to prosper through the recession.
The One-Stop-Shop provides tailored advice to any Edinburgh-based company from a micro-sized start-up to a larger SME. Advice ranges from Government funded grants & loans, resource efficiency, green marketing opportunities to legislation with the aim of identifying cost saving or new sales opportunities for businesses.

In this talk Ian will delve into the journey of lastminute.com. Lastminute.com was founded by Brent Hoberman and Martha Lane-Fox in 1998 as an online provider of anything travel and event related, from theatre tickets to holidays. Now in its tenth year, lastminute.com has grown into a worldwide business employing 1981 staff and is the most successful travel corporations on the planet. Brent stepped down as CEO in May 2006 to became company chairman handing the reins to Ian McCaig. Ian joined lastminute.com as Chief Operating Officer from Nokia in August 2003, where he ran the communications company's business in Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
