Supplier management focuses on the means by which your venture procures the goods, materials, or inventory which are either essential to your product or service, or else manufactured into the product on which your business is centred. This not only means focusing on the cost of procurement, and on ensuring that this cost is as low as possible; it also involves risk management with regards to the availability of the materials or goods, or more importantly, the possible lack of availability at any time during which they are particularly required.

What is Involved?

Supplier management involves monitoring the quality and availability of any services which are crucial to the continued growth and success of your venture. Essentially, it is concerned with:

Finding suppliers:
  • Quality of supplies or services
  • Cost of supplies or services
Setting up a relationship with suppliers:
  • Develop a structure for supplier-venture relationship
  • Procedures, policies, processes involved in relationship
Managing supplies to the business:
  • Continued cost evaluation
  • Availability of supplies
  • Performance of supplier process
