Tips for entrepreneurs
  1. Just don't settle. Especially with employees, it is very important to find great people you are compatible with.
  2. There is a benefit from being real experts. Experience pays off.
  3. Have a healthy disregard for the impossible. Stretch your goals.
  4. It is OK to solve a hard problem. Solving hard problems is where you will get the biggest leverage.

Ajaz Ahmed

Top 3 Character Traits of a Successful Entrepreneur
(Quoted from www.ariadnecapital.com)
  1. The ability to take complicated things and make them very simple
  2. You must be a good people's person. You can be a horrible person in your personal life but you must be able to turn on the charm when talking to corporates, investors, staff and the press. You also have to be able to read people in order to get the most out of them. Selling yourself is key- too many people get that wrong.
  3. You meet people that have the magic ingredient but its very difficult to describe, I believe that successful people are "savvy", but what does "savvy" actually mean, I think these words describe "savvy" perfectly and if you look at savvy people or companies that you know, these words describe them perfectly: quick, clever, acute, alert, astute, cagey, canny, cunning, deft, keen, knowing, penetrating, perceptive, piercing, quick sighted, quick witted, receptive, responsive, sagacious, sensitive, sharp, sharp witted, shrewd, slick, smart, street smart, wise.

Three Key VC Tips
  • A successful startup is only 5% about the idea, 95% about execution
  • VCs and Dragon's Den's jury are not looking for the great idea but for the conviction in the person
  • Get 2-3 years of work experience first in the market you want to start your company in to understand the business thoroughly

  • It's you who makes the winning difference - Don't underestimate yourself!
  • Achieving excellence never gets easier
  • Winning is doing better than you did yesterday, not doing better than someone else - Challenge yourself: "You don't become faster by running against slow people!"
  • Grab opportunities right when they come up, they are only there for the briefest moments in time

Charlie Taylor

Charlie Taylor (CEO and Founder of Charlie Taylor Hair, Health and Beauty)
On Motivation
  • It's not easy for things to look simple: an entrepreneur's work might look easy - it's not!
  • You got to have attitude: "We hire for attitude, we train for skill"
  • If you really want something, go for it and never give up
  • Don't do it for the money/ the business, do it because you want it
  • Have perseverance, stick to your vision
  • Don't underestimate your abilities: Charlie finished school at 15 and is completely self-educated business-wise. She was never afraid of failure out of pure ignorance/stupidity (her own words!)
